Khadi and Textile Wavers

Current Status: The Khadi production is expected to rise by 40% in coming years. The Government of India through the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is establishing a Centre of Excellence for Khadi (CoEK) to promote Khadi industry.

Support Required: On the aspect on the impact of Technology, the weavers stated that the new technologies are driving traditional handloom weavers out of work. Therefore, they expect that the Government should focus more on skill development in the areas of Designing, Testing, Cloth shining, Finishing, Packaging, Dying etc. Setting up of a cluster, easy access to credit would be helpful.
